Questions to ask your Website Designer During a Consult Call

Whats the plan for your Web Design Process?

Only when you have a goal can a website designer show you the way to achieve it. Once you provide your web designer with your requirements, they should give you a plan in return—a clear roadmap outlining how the project will proceed, including the next steps after the initial call. Ideally, an efficient website designer should already have this plan in place, but in case they don't, you should ask them for directions and a clear plan for your project.


How many design revisions or client feedbacks are included in the package?

No one likes a nagging boss or an inefficient consultant. Hiring a web designer means they will represent your brand in the digital world, and you have every right to ensure you are more than satisfied with your website. For transparency, before you begin your project, ask your designer how many times they will be able to provide input during the process. There are two ways to look at this: if the web designer has spent time with you in strategy calls and provided you with a brand questionnaire, they should already have a clear understanding of what you're looking for. However, as a client, you still have the right to give feedback. Ultimately, once the website is complete, both parties should feel satisfied with the collaboration, and the mutual creative effort should be evident in the final project. Asking these questions helps establish clear boundaries and prevents future misunderstandings



What pages are included on your website and how will they serve your business?


Imagine going to a restaurant, being seated to order food, and the waiter immediately asks for your budget. After you share it, they rush to the kitchen and return with a dish. Wouldn't that be strange? You never got a chance to see the menu or ask for what you actually wanted. Not having clear deliverables for your website is the same. Ask your website designer what content will be included on your site and how each page will help your business. For example, if you're a fully booked nutritionist and a new mom with a lot on your plate, you might not have time to write blogs. In that case, ask your designer what other pages might be more beneficial to your business than a blog page. Don't hesitate to ask questions—they are the experts—and share your concerns so they can help you succeed


Whats included in the post launch support?


Have you ever bought a bag from Patagonia or MEC? Not only are these brands famous for their quality, but they also offer lifelong service. Once you're their customer, they support you with any issues you might have after the purchase. Now, I’m not saying that designers should provide lifelong support, but it’s nice to have some ongoing support, and it’s important for you to know what that support looks like. For example, I offer my clients two weeks of email support. They can email me once or multiple times, and I will reply and help them out. I also wouldn’t hesitate to jump on a call if it’s faster to resolve their website issue.
